Start by naming the side of the glass
Customers often say they need the windows cleaned without specifying internal, external or both sides. That can lead to quotes that appear similar but cover different work.
External glass is exposed to weather, salt, dust, insects and surrounding landscaping. Internal glass may have fingerprints, cooking residue, pet marks or furniture limiting access. Cleaning both sides gives the clearest overall result, but it also requires more time and access.
Internal window cleaning
Internal work requires access to the glass from inside the property. Before the service, move small fragile items from sills and nearby furniture where practical. Curtains, blinds, electronics and heavy furniture should be discussed rather than moved without agreement.
Tell the cleaner about pets, alarms, restricted rooms and delicate window coverings. The scope should also explain whether internal glass doors, mirrors or partitions are included.
External window cleaning
External work depends heavily on safe access. Ground conditions, height, balconies, roofs, landscaping and parked vehicles can affect the method and whether every pane can be reached.
A cleaner should not promise high or awkward glass before reviewing the property. Work that needs specialist equipment or unsafe roof access may be excluded or referred.
Glass is not the whole window
A clear quote should say whether it includes:
- Glass only
- Flyscreens or security screens
- Tracks and channels
- Frames and sills
- Sliding doors
- Internal partitions or glass balustrades
- Removal of stickers, paint or construction residue
Tracks containing heavy soil, insects or building residue can require more time than a normal maintenance clean. Damaged screens and hardware are maintenance issues, not cleaning results.
Condition affects the method
Ordinary soil and fingerprints are different from hard water deposits, paint, adhesive, scratches or etched glass. These conditions should be photographed or inspected before quoting.
Cleaning cannot reverse permanent scratches, coating failure or glass damage. Restoration services are different from routine window cleaning.
Choose the scope for the next event
Both sides may be worthwhile before property photography, an open home, a business opening or a major seasonal clean. External only can suit routine presentation where the interior is maintained separately. Internal only may be needed after decorating, cooking residue or changes to furniture and rooms.
